TAMMERKOSKI RAPIDS How would you feel about fishing in the city center of Tampere? Tammerkoski Rapids flow through the industrial milieu, businesses and under numerous bridges all the way to Lake Pyhäjärvi. Just take your spinning rod from your backpack and start luring fish in the middle of this 200 000 inhabitants’ city. There are fish in Tammerkoski Rapids and there’s even a good chance to lure a salmon. For fishing in the city, you need a fishing permit. KOSKIPUISTO Take your whole family to the park! The playground Pikku Kakkonen (named after a popular Finnish children’s TV show) is located in park Koskipuisto. This famous playground is a perfect place to unload some extra energy. Children can play in the various devices themed with familiar characters from Pikku Kakkonen. The playground is divided into two areas - the city and the forest. You can find celebrity characters in both of them. A year-round maintenance enables jogging in the park no matter the season. There are nearby paths for the urban hiker. Beside the park, there are also some exquisite restaurants and cafes. Koskipuisto park is also a scene for many events and happenings. The most popular of them is Vappu, the 1st of May, when the park fills with thousands of celebrators. PYYNIKINHARJU RIDGE Pyyninkinharju ridge, which took shape in the end of ice age, rises to over 150 metres above the sea level. There are several well-marked paths on the area, for example a nine-kilometer long nature trail. Pyynikinharju ridge is one of the most popular outdoor attractions in Tampere. Some of the trails are illuminated and suitable for skiing during winter. During winter there is also a sledding hill for children. On the ridge there is a granite observation tower. The Pyynikki tower, built in 1929, overlooks the city and its lake scenery. You can enjoy freshly ground coffee and delicious doughnuts in the coffee shop, under the tower. The doughnuts have a reputation of their own. Pyynikki (Swedish: Pynike) is a district and a nature reserve in Tampere, Finland. It is located in the Pyynikinharju ridge, between the city center and the western district of Pispala.
