Saunas – The Sauna of Rajaportti Tampere is officially the world sauna capital. The statements of the Finnish Sauna Society and the International Sauna Association agree with granting the honorary title to Tampere. The title is earned since there are over 50 public saunas in Tampere and in its surroundings. The building of saunas continues, which means, that the city will most likely keep its honorary title in the future, as well. One of the most legendary saunas is Rajaportti, which is the oldest public sauna in Finland. Rajaportti opened back in 1906. It has room for over 20 people at a time. In the sauna, there are different departments for men and women. This traditional Finnish sauna is heated with one-meter-long logs in the mornings to ensure that there’s enough heat, “löyly”, until the evening. Särkänniemi, which is located under Näsinneula, is the second largest amusement park in Finland. Särkänniemi is open through summer and during school children’s autumn holiday week. During the autumn the park celebrates the creepy carnival, Karmiva Karnevaali. In October you can experience the amusement park devices during the dark, atmospheric season.
