ATTRACTIONS IN OULU Oulu is a beautiful city. It has grown from an ancient trading center to a modern city, packed with museums, galleries, and different events. Tietomaa-tiedekeskus – Science Centre Tietomaa Finland's first science center is the perfect place for learning. It offers activities for the whole family. There are more than 150 hands-on attractions and new exhibitions are opened every year. You can test your skills in the ski jump simulator, or try if you can make it throgh the labyrinth of traps! Address: Nahkatehtaankatu 6, only 1,5 kilometers from the city center of Oulu. Science made simple! Rotuaari The Rotuaari is a pedestrian zone, or actually a pedestrian mall in the city center. It is also considered to be a common living room amongst the local people. It was opened in 1987. There are restaurants in Rotuaari, if you are looking for a nice cup of coffee or something to eat in-between your shoppings. The Rotuaari is the best place to go shopping in Oulu! It takes only 10 minutes to walk from the bus station. The main square of Rotuaari is the Oulu Central Square, where most of the events of Rotuaari are held. A heating system was placed underneath the pedestrian part of Kirkkokatu in 2012. This means that it will be free of ice and snow during the winter months! Oulu Market Square and Market Hall The Oulu Market Square is located in the heart of Oulu on shores of the Oulujoki river. In addition to the traditional market stalls, old warehouses have been restored as bars. Several restaurants line the square. When you arrive to the Market Square, the local bronze sculpture Toripolliisi (Market square policeman) welcomes you. The old Market Hall on the Market Square was opened in 1901 and is a very popular place to meet friends, and to shop for groceries. Local delicacies such as “rössypottu” made of black pudding, potatoes and pork is worth tasting – we dare you! You can also find gifts and lovely handicrafts made by locals.
