In the following, we present some of the most compelling museums, suitable for all ages. The Museum of Natural History Do you want to see a dinosaur skeleton or a full-sized mammoth? In the Natural History Museum you can find whole family of wool mammoths, whose story ended along the climate change. When standing in the same room with the mammoths you can easily imagine yourself living in the Stone Age. There are nine million different samples in the Natural History Museum – a lot to see and experience, that’s guaranteed. A huge African Elephant in the lobby greets you. The museum is located in the corner of streets Arkadiankatu and Pohjoinen Rautatienkatu in the center of Helsinki. The walk from Kamppi bus terminal takes only a couple minutes. The National Museum of Finland How would you feel, if you had a chance to sit on a full-sized horse? This experience is possible in the Vintti exhibition space of The National Museum of Finland. The Museum is only a five-minute walk away from the Natural History Museum. The Museum building, completed in 1910, is easy to notice, because it represents the national romanticism style at its best. The Museum displays the Finnish history all the way from the middle age until today. In these versatile exhibitions, you can find out, what do we still have in common with our ancestors, who lived over 10 000 years ago. “The 10 000 years of design” exhibition challenges us to think about human as a part of the ecosystem and our relationship with matter and objects. The exhibition approaches the subject from the contemporary point of view and shows objects made from the traditional Finnish materials, design novelties and high technology. The exhibition is open from 12.10.2018 to 24.2.2019. Make sure to reserve at least a couple of hours for visiting the National Museum. The opening hours are from Tuesday to Sunday 11–18 and on Wednesdays 11–20. Tram Museum Would you like hop aboard an old tram? Or stamp the tickets like in the old days? The Tram Museum makes this possible. Trams have been a part of Helsinki for over a hundred years. In the Tram Museum you can learn everything about the history of Helsinki trams. Entrance to the museum is free. The museum is also suitable for the whole family. The Tram Museum is located in Töölö, at Korjaamo Culture Factory. There is a shop and a café at the museum. The Helsinki Tram Museum was chosen as one of the most child-friendly venues in Helsinki. The opening hours are every day (Monday-Sunday) 11–17.
