Hamina's specialty is a very unique circle center. There is only one other city in the world with a circle center. Hamina is an old fortress, garrison and port city, and its location between east and west makes it international. The city is about 40 kilometers from the Russian border. In Hamina, it is most convenient to go through all the main sights on foot or by bike. Due to its interesting history, Hamina has many different museums, including the RUK Museum and the Merchant's House Museum. In addition, in the center of Hamina there are three churches of different styles, which are located next to each other. The world's largest flag of Finland is located in Hamina. It can be seen anywhere in the center of Hamina with a flagpole 100 meters high. The flag weighs about 55 kilograms. At the foot of the flagpole you can sit and admire the surrounding seascape. Once you have toured the centre of Hamina, you can move on to the pleasant countryside and visit, for example, Merikeinu alpaca farm. The farm is located about 5 kilometers from the center of Hamina. Despite its name, you can meet not only alpacas but also goats, cats, dogs and bunnies. The trails of Portimo are worth a visit if hiking is your thing. Portimo Trails is a network of hiking trails covering more than 40 kilometers. The area has varied environments and terrain.
