WELCOME TO MUONIO, WESTERN LAPLAND!
- Olos, one of Muonio's 20 fells
Have you ever dreamed of a snowy winter holiday in Lapland? If so, you are welcome to visit Muonio in Western Lapland! We do have snow, as the snow cover will remain on the ground until the beginning of May. There is space. No hurry, no pressure.
Here you can breathe the cleanest tested air in the world while taking a day trip or longer by skiing, snowshoeing or with reindeer and husky safari or snowmobile, for example. Climb up a fell or even twenty. Enjoy winter fishing. See the Northern Lights dancing.
It is easy to discover nature with a local guide - you will certainly learn a lot about our nature and the Lappish way of living. Choose your gear from one of our rentals and go out for an adventure!
Olos, one of Muonio's 20 fells, is a skier paradise and downhill skiing fans aren’t forgotten. Olos offers you 10 downhill skiing slopes to try out. There are about 200 kilometres of cross-country ski trails in the varying terrains in the nearby area for both beginners and more experienced skiers. Olos has a few cosy restaurants. We recommend you to taste reindeer meat with one of Lapland’s specialties, puikulaperuna, a small, almond-shaped potato. And for dessert local pastry called mettäkakko. It’s a combination of a biscuit and a sweet bun. Double your indulgence!
If you are interested in off-piste skiing, the Pallas Fell ski resort is a place for you. Its slopes of natural snow and panoramic national landscape fell scenery make any skier speechless.
It is easy to order food and grocery products and “home” delivery from K-Market Muoniontori's online store. Both K-Market and S-Market serve in the centre of Muonio village. There you will also find other shops as well Roll´s hamburger restaurant.
In the evenings it is time to relax in one of our saunas. For example, visit Arctic Sauna World in Jeris, a unique place with four elements, earth, water, air and fire combined to form the fifth element, the steaming sauna spirit. Another option to spend your evening is to go and see a film. Olos Polar Center presents the latest films and Finnish and international premieres.
Summer is getting closer day by day. In summer you can take a short or several-day trip under the Midnight Sun by trekking, cycling or paddling. You can also jump on a white-water rafting and just let the flow of stream of Europe's longest free-flowing salmon river to take you to the journey. Fishing on the long rivers and numerous lakes of Muonio is a real passion for many fishers. By planting your own tree, you will help us reduce the carbon footprint of your holiday!
A fixed price taxi service takes you and your gear easily to different locations in Muonio. Buses also run from time to time. 😊
You can stay at the hotel, motel, cottages, holiday homes, campsites, luxury tents or hammock style accommodation.
This and much more you can discover in Muonio in the heart of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park.
