Many people would say Karkkila, the next stop on our holiday in Finland. With 9,000 inhabitants, this small town is only an hour from Helsinki and is full of activities. Would you say a holiday means trying out something new? In that case, a trip to Karkkila might be the right choice for your next holiday. Karkkila's many rapids provide the perfect setting for year-round fishing and, on top of that, many of the rapids are located right in the urban area. Of course, even if you don’t plan to fish, the rapids can still be admired. There is one flowing right across town! If you are interested in more of a wilderness fishing, you should head to either Maijalankoski or Pitkälänkoski, where you can combine fishing with enjoying snacks by a campfire and even sleep overnight at the lean-tos. But before you go fishing, just remember to take care of the mandatory permits! Bike tour in Karkkila Some of our well-aware passengers may know that taking a bicycle with you is possible on one of our FLEX trips. This option is worth considering on a trip to Karkkila, especially if you are planning to combine trips to nearby places. A route called Pikkupässi, which is a gravel-based cycling route of about 50 km long, runs from Karkkila to Hyvinkää. There is no need to get fancy on this route – it's a nice ride even on a regular bike. Hop on a bike shortly after breakfast, and you can still get back to Karkkila before evening, unless you intend to stay overnight in Hyvinkää. H2: Karkkila holiday outdoors In Karkkila you can easily think of things to do on a summer day, as there are several activities available. Rantapuisto is an excellent location for active travelers, since you can swim and play a variety of ball games from tennis to mini golf. Most sports are either completely free of charge or very affordable and are therefore perfectly suited to a budget traveler. For example, you can play through a mini golf course even more than once for a nominal fee of a couple euros. The basic idea is the same, yet this next sport is completely different compared to mini golf. You guessed it, we’re talking about one of Finland’s popular summer sports, disc golf. The track starts at Asemanranta and follows the shoreline of Lake Pyhäjärvi, crossing occasionally to narrow forest paths. The Karkkila track is relatively difficult, so no need to get discouraged even if you don’t score a hole in one right away.
