The annual Suvisoitto Festival by the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra in summery Porvoo kicks off with the traditional Opening Fanfare at Porvoo Town Hall Square on Thursday, June 27, at 12:00 PM, and the four-day festival continues in Porvoo until Sunday, June 30, 2024. This year's Suvisoitto Festival, curated by artistic director, composer, and conductor Ondřej Adámek, features a playful program filled with diversity and intercultural dialogue. The stars of the new generation of Finnish conductors, Aliisa Neige Barrière and Kristian Sallinen, will lead Avanti! Barrière will conduct the opening concert, and Sallinen will take the helm for the closing concert. Soloists performing with the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra include violinist Tami Pohjola, and Adámek’s trusted sopranos Landy Andriamboavonjya and Shigeko Hata. Avanti's various ensembles offer listeners a range of experiences on Friday, including an immersive journey into the world of percussion at Avanti-Club, and a concert at Porvoo Cathedral featuring works by female composers performed by the Avanti Quartet. On Saturday, June 29, it's worth spending the whole day in Porvoo. The bilingual family-friendly Suvisoitto concert in the afternoon, with guitarist Petri Kumela and poet Laura Ruohonen, takes listeners on an adventure into the world of small animals. Erika Kallasmaa's stunning illustrations ensure there is plenty to marvel at for both children and adults. In the evening, Suvisoitto is filled with the sounds of tango and jazz as Maria Ylipää and friends take the stage with Avanti's string ensemble, and the Adele Sauros Quartet featuring Max Zenger visits Avanti-Club. On the final day, Sunday, June 30, the festival concludes with the composition masterclass's final concert and the Suvisoitto closing concert at the Art Factory. Once again, Smaku and Avanti’s Suvisoitto join forces during the festival. Concertgoers can enjoy delicious offers at Smaku's partner restaurants throughout the festival week. The ninth edition of the Smaku event in Porvoo showcases the flavors of local restaurants through tasting portions.
